spirale 5 was published in 1955 and was dedicated to Josef Albers (1888–1976), who taught at the Hochschule für Gestaltung Ulm that year. The German artist, art theorist and educator was one of the pioneers at the Bauhaus and later a professor at Black Mountain College and Yale University, known for his examination of the phenomenon of perspective. He is famed for his homage to the "square series."
On the occasion of Josef Albers’s 130th birthday, we are now making some copies of spirale 5 available. The issue contains lithographs of perspective studies and a text by Albers. Issue 5 furthermore features work by young Swiss artists in the field of concrete art.
